FAVOURITE ANIMATION CLIPS

My top 5 favourite animations which are inspiring me to increase overall understanding of the CGI animations and how to compress a strong narrative into a very short period of time. All these animations have their own unique style and this is why I decided predominantly introduce these particular and individual art pieces.


1|ZERO

When you feel different

One of my favourites out there. Stunning animation with a very, very common problem shown in the narrative. I was simply fascinated when I watched this masterpiece for the very first time. This imaginary world has been thought out to the tiniest details and shows how cruel society can be when they have sustainable believe in their exclusivity. But sometimes one occasion can change everything. One of the most atmospheric works I have ever seen. 

2|The Backwater Gospel

Attractive young man

Very stylish animation with very dark ambiance. Cell-shaded visuals with engaging characters make narrative alluring. What do I like about this video is how this dark character is accompanied with death and brings a nightmare to this small western city where they all believe that they can be saved from any hazard.

3|Pinched

Underground routine

The Very attractive art style looks similar to videos drawn for the ‘’Gorillaz’’ band. Laboriously selected lines and the very ‘’chopped’’ movement of characters. Believable transmitted behavior of the pocket thief and emotions he expresses. I do really enjoy this ‘’sketchy’’ art style in animation, the very atmospheric environment which kinda asks for the full movie to be released. 

The story line shows some serious social issues like - ‘’Dirty’’ police, thieves and just a regular people tired and buried in the apathy. One of my favorites. 

4|SOFLES - Limitless

Limitless imagination

Very inspirational stop motion video of Graffiti  artists at work. Allocated in abandoned factory building, they are spreading out their paintings around all reachable walls. A Huge amount of work and gallons of paint has been left here. This video is abundant with different witty  moments and camera position solutions which make this video memorable. There is no story included , but the actual narrative about an everyday routine of these specific artists has been shown very deserving. 

5|"CALDERA" - by Evan Viera

Running away

Another peculiar work out there. Stunning animation with the carefully designed world. What do I like about this art piece is that  smooth movement of characters and an immersive ambient environment. Although  this animation has been created avoiding ‘’abroad’’ level of detail, the visual aspect of this work is more than appropriate. 


P.S.
It is very important to follow your favourite artist out there to see how are they developing their skills and how are they following trends in this industry. Also, it is crucial to keep watching animations with completely different visuals even if you prefer only the CGI ones. This practice will develop a good world view and also will expand your knowledge about the industry.

WEEK WITH THE CHARACTER

Goodoo is a very independent creature which can easily exist without any company. If he feels that the person is not suffering from any problem he can be provided to himself. During this week I felt elated and I gave some freedom to my new friend. As he is very curious creature it was very important to keep him at home if I am going somewhere. He can be easily fascinated about anything and get lost very quickly. he does not belong to nobody so I would not like to lose him somewhere in the park while he is my assistant during this task. Of course, I am not chaining him - he is able to do whatever he want, but at least I have got many interesting things to show him so he will be busy while discovering them. All his week has been captured and posted via twitter, which he created absolutely by himself. It was very funny to keep watch over him while he tried to create his account. I must note that he passed this obstacle as an adult. All the pictures I have taken were carefully inspected and approved by Goodoo. He is very chilled and takes all the restrictions very easily due to his size and physical power. When he noticed that I have a toy helicopter he immediately decided to take a fly. Unfortunately, he had no clue how to control this flying vehicle and asked me to be a pilot. I tried to explain that the weather is too bad for the flying actions, but he didn't listen to me so I just said that I will try to teach him how to be a pilot. He loves tangerines so much that when I offered some he immediately forgot about the flying machine. He is not eating much and only fruits. I though that he is very close to the Buddhism as he always stays positive and tries to  wish on this behavior to everybody. So I bought some pillows with Buddha's  physiognomy on them. Goodoo didn't have any happiness limits at all. He stayed in the bed for a whole day before I have introduced Youtube. If I would know that he is so obsessed with videos I would never show him this website. All day long he has been watching videos of cats and fail compilations, but he didn't laugh. He told me that many people feel serious pain in that moment and he doesn't understand why people think it is so funny. I tried to explain why are we laughing, but I discovered that I don't even know why. It was a good food for the brain. All these days he felt no bored and always looked for something new to discover. I was really puzzled where he stored all this energy. I felt so old near him. But I have noticed one very important but imperceptible thing - When he felt good and happy I felt the same. I was submerged in everything that he does and I felt interested in everything that is going on around me. Like I would be awakened from a deep dream. I must note that this week wasn't only about him, it was about me at least a half. I am very thankful that he opened my eyes and has shown how to feel happy about little things while we are so concerned about insignificant cases which are not benefiting our lives at all.

So who am I? I am a creature created by the very good craftsman. As I know he has been creating me with the best merits and as I know he was very kind to everyone no matter what. He laid best qualities into me. And the most important one - empathy.   I do now my purpose and it is to make people happy. Do you know that Voodoo guy who helps bad people make someone feel pain or to have some problem with health? So I am the opposite. I do not really exist for myself. I am alive, but not in the habitual meaning. To explain so, I can not exist if I do not have any proprietor. Owner whom I belong (only if he is a very good person) I do help mentally. I can make his life much happier and richer. I can cast best feelings and experiences. My purpose is to be a talisman who also can be a friend.  

There was a question: What would I bring with me if I would be stuck on the desert island (5 items) ?! How can I bring anything if I am stuck? But okay, so these items would be:

With all of these items, I will feel secured everywhere. 

Now I need to choose any job on this planet...

I would like to be a Doctor. Purely because so many people suffer and there is such a minimal knowledge how to repair souls. As I am a doll, I could live infinite set of years so I could easily achieve doctor title. But my dream becomes pointless as I am only a doll, not a human. 

- What is the final thing you do when you wake up and the last before you go to sleep?

I don’t wake up as I don’t go to sleep, so there is no final thing for me...yet.

I feel relaxed when everything around me holds the harmony and I am very angry if someone tries to screw it up purposely.

I also have a guilty pleasure and it is "Matrix"

And I do not have any best friend at all because we all are a part of this huge universe and we all are friends at the very beginning. I could have one but since I am created for everyone I just can't have a best friend.

I do not really have any childhood memories and it is because by nature I am the adult all the time and I do not grow.

Me as the creator:

This is a very interesting creation. Very happy and always positive. He is not annoying and you don't even feel that he hangs around. But you always know he is nearby. I still cannot get used to the fact he is not eating and sleeping but he is always smiling and produces an energy of happiness. Also, he is sharp minded and never will answer as you expect. I think it is because he is trying to be funny and it is very hard to get some serious information about him. And possibly know why: He is a very unique creature. I can suggest that he is not afraid to tell anything about his life, he is afraid that we will never understand. So that is why he is just a relaxed being and tries to live as happy life as hew can and help others to feel the same way as he does.

PHYSICAL CHARACTER CREATION

Birth of Goodoo Goods

To create Goodoo I have used different materials which have been surrounding  me. The idea came up very fast I noticed that I could use a single stick to represent the body. The rest parts came up together to try to represent doll body which would look like Voodoo doll. That would work well with the Idea with came in straight after I took the first stick for my character. He will be the opposite of Voodoo doll. Good and positive guy who needs the appropriate name. For his legend, I took the idea that some very skilled craftsman with very deep knowledge of the white magic could create him with the purpose to serve others. This would be a very nice story of his existence. 

From the very beginning, I noticed that the amount of resources I have is not enough to create the Ideal version of my doll. I had couple wooden sticks with indefinite purpose, buttons, white cord and pins. So my creativeness was suffering because it was limited by the amount of detail I could use to create this beautiful voodoo doll. But I started to assemble this creature no matter what. 

                            

I have used the stick from the Starbucks coffee to represent the arms of my doll. ( this will be a nice detail for the cut-out animation. Otherwise, my doll will look too stationary) Winding the cord around the body gave me a variety of the surface I decorated with some thumbtacks. I have used a large button to give a look of the head so I excluded any option for eyes, but we must sacrifice something in the name of the beauty. 

                            

I begged some bands from my neighbor to avoid the complete disgrace of my design. I wrapped these bands around the main body to add some tribal look to it. All the time while I have been creating this little creature I thought that I could bring to this lesson way more materials to create a better creature. But the effort is proportional to the outcome so it is only the fault of mine. Next time when I will have a task to create something I will put my maximum effort into it even if it is going to take a whole day.

                            

                            


Summary

It just seems that character creation I something simple. It is not - because all of the time you can think that you could do something differently. I do like my creation, but if I would have more resources than I would definitely create something else. I enjoyed this task simply because it makes your brain work extensively to produce something unique and original.  I do realize that I could add more detail, but for this purpose, the nature of this creature is not about the external. This creature represents our feelings and as our feelings are hidden deep inside, this creature is more beautiful in its core. And I don't want to offend my creature, I really enjoyed the creation process of you, but next time I will create the much more attractive outfit for you.
